Ed says he will fight to help working families

Having a look at the Internet news items I found Labours latest press release

It states that Labour will help working families?

I can assure the readers of this blog, I will give him some ideas on how Labour can help me and other families.

They can start by repairing my company pension which almost disappeared after his Government put a stealth tax on it meaning I will have to work longer

Then he can pay me back all the extra income tax that I’ve paid since his government whipped away the 10p tax band

Then he can move on to education and help those who need good maths and science

To get a good job

But most of all he can help the working families who are paying off the national debt as the 

 UK public sector net debt in July 2011 was £940.1 billion

(61.4 per cent of GDP)- (this excludes financial sector intervention.)

but perhaps he doesn’t need my advice, from the last posting about the You-Gov findings Six out of 10 said they thought his political party has still not "faced up to the damage they did to the British economy".

It taken long than I thought but the people seem to be waking up to what has happened to the UK over the last 15 years.

Save our NHS

I read with interest the latest article of on Labour’s claims that the Government is reducing NHS funding for deprived areas and specifically Sandwell.

In fact Labour is now going around with a petition called save our NHS

But I have one simple answer for Sandwell Labour, this is categorically untrue.

The Government is increasing spending on the NHS in real terms in every year of this Parliament. Indeed, the lowest any area will see its spending increase by in 2011-12 is 2.5 per cent – and this is Kingston-upon-Thames, which is not an area of high deprivation. The average across the country is 3 per cent.

In Sandwell our local area, thanks to the Government’s commitment to the NHS, spending is increasing by 3.1%.

Sadly Labour has failed to meet our commitment to increased NHS spending, either in Government or now in Opposition. Their spending plans would see the NHS cut in every area of the country, some estimates say Labour were planning to cut the NHS by £1Billion

But let’s look deeper at what has happened with the NHS

Remember mixed sex wards

Labour broke their promises to end mixed-sex wards. Labour’s 1997 manifesto promised: ‘As part of our concern to ensure quality, we will work towards the elimination of mixed-sex wards’ (Labour Party, General Election Manifesto 1997). The 2001 Labour Manifesto, promised: ‘Mixed-sex wards will be abolished’ (Labour Party, General Election Manifesto 2001).

One in four patients in mixed-sex wards under Labour. The Care Quality Commission reported that in Labour’s last year of government, one in four patients were still treated in mixed-sex wards (Care Quality Commission, Annual inpatient survey, 13 May 2009). Years after their promise

Over 140,000 patients a year still in mixed-sex accommodation by the time Labour left office. If the first monthly figures – published in December – were extrapolated across the year as a whole, over 140,000 patients every year suffered the indignity of mixed-sex accommodation when we took office (Department of Health Press Release, 20 January 2011,

We sorted it in 8 months

After years of failure under Labour, our Government has driven down by 90 per cent the number of hospital patients in mixed-sex wards. We introduced tough measures to scrap mixed-sex accommodation in almost all hospitals.

The NHS has done a fantastic job getting to grips with this. Single-sex accommodation is what people can now expect. By introducing greater transparency, this Government has driven down breaches by 90 per cent in eight months

Sadly Labour derided our tough action as ‘pointless’. Shadow Health Minister Liz Kendall said in January that fining hospitals which failed on mixed-sex accommodation was pointless (BBC News Online, 19 August 2011,

Sandwell Housing benefit

It could well be said "Why has Sandwell Council started a help line for residents on housing benefit"?  when the department for Works and Pensions has plainly stated that the reforms are

NOT DESIGNED TO FORCE PEOPLE OUT OF THEIR HOMES,

ITS ABOUT RESTORING FAIRNESS

In fact the DWP spokes person said

People in the most vulnerable situations will remain exempt and those not exempt can be considered for EXTRA HELP   

I ask you is there an election on its way ? or could it be purely “let’s scare em” ?

Yes these and more were designed in Britain, only 40 years ago “Made in Britain”

Was still a common sight on most products.

Then came the 1960’s Education changes, these changes are still in operation today,

Schools have drifted away from Maths, Physics, History,Chemistry, Technical drawing, Metalwork, Woodwork, Geography and English.

Today it’s more common to see Travel & Tourism or sport

 I’m tired of seeing all over the country the same buz words used in education, “transforming learning, “inspiring range of choice”,   “personal learning” and I must not forget “Raising expectations”.

To raising expectations we need to point children to were the real money is, innovation

Product development, Germany, China and India know this fact well

Our Country is crying out for Mechanical engineers, statisticians, Electrical Engineers, Physicists, Chemists and the like and the trend was for Travel & Tourism?????

Who on earth will put the light back on when they go out I ask??

Put simply I feel the very people who went through the old education system and are now in positions of authority are the very same ones who do not seem to want it to return.

Now even the boss of Google as made comments on the UK’s educational system

Sandwell Education & Learning

Only now is it becoming evident at what happened with Education under Labour.

It seems that year after year Labour shouted standards are improving, but at the same time industry and commerce complained that qualification our kids had were not the right ones.

Now just over 12 months into the coalition government, it’s now emerging that in 1997 over 293,000 kids sat GCSE in Maths & English (50%) , by 2010-11 this was down to 152,000  (22%)

This follows an independent report on education and it found that 350,000 children each year are studying for qualifications with

“Little to no labour market value”

But things are getting better there is now an increase in the up-take of Maths & Physics

Sandwell Tory said

We are pushing industry and business to take off and bring real money into our country

Giving jobs to our people, but the people must have the right qualifications for the job.

I have to ask what good is a GCSE in travel and tourism in Sandwell and following the TV programme CSI the number of kids on forensics courses rocketed when sadly the jobs in that area are very limited.

We need a work force that can count and write to fill the jobs which are now being created to help pay off Labours Debt.

Sandwell School closures

A number of people have complained about not being able to get the school of choice for their children

So let’s have a look at what happened to some of the Schools in Sandwell

We start at a secondary school

            This is the site of Churchfields Comprehensive 

it could hold 1325 pupils and closed in July 2001

and by September 2002 was in the process of demolition

Now we move to Primary Schools

This is Kent Close Primary & Infants

 It could hold 182 pupils, opened in 1960 and closed August 2005 and

only demolished a few years ago

I wonder why there's a school place shortage ??

European Tax

You have to hand it to the Germans & French, while the UK is battling through the economic storm created by spend, spend, spend, with money we didn’t have and paying off its debts, 

      it seems the Germans & French have found a new way to fund countries within the Euro group who simply could not get their finance in order.

You guessed it they want to put a new £13Billion Tax on the UK.  

To pay for their spending spree

They propose to put this latest tax on the stock market in London, as a Transaction Tax

Every deal the stock market does would carry a new tax and the money go to Europe.

How would that affect me I hear you ask???

It’s simple a big chunk of everyone’s pension payments comes from the stock market

and a new massive tax would simply drive investors to the US, Tokyo or Hong Kong.

Leaving you with less pension and less investment in the UK

One group has already called it Economic Suicide    

Sandwell Tory said

Once again It’s easy to spend someone else’s money and not worry about who pays

the bill, in the past both Labour & Conservative Governments have kept us out the

Euro zone for good reasons, these reasons still stand today.

Its seems they have just simply looked at raiding what little money the UK has left
